By folding the covers of the book back until they meet and tying them together, the book can stand on its own, and the pages become 3-dimensional, the pages contain layers of art papers on card stock, cutout spaces, ribbons, laces and other fabrics with a keepsake photograph in each, printed on plain paper so that it can be bent without damage. One of the pages includes a pocket which holds a message card which can be pulled out by means of a ribbon 'bookmark'. All words have been obscured by me for privacy, and are not a critical part of the sculpture. Rather, the book-sculpture is intended to be a container for a message.

Additional materials used in making this item were colored pens for the page edges, glue, velvet, double-stick tape, and miscellaneous items from the sewing basket.

That was a craft project that I consider was very successful - it made my mother very happy at a difficult time .. celebrating a lifetime of marriage when one's spouse has passed away... it's difficult, but after 56 years, each anniversary is a celebration of a shared lifetime, rather than the marking of another year of marriage.. so my sisters and I make a point of making the day special :-)

I'm so glad it came out right on the first try.. because there wasn't time for a second try... ;-) (you can tell by the way I type a note, that I'm used to chat, lol...

and with that.. I'm crawling off to be.. before I crash on the keyboard.. :P

Wow, had no idea that there was such a story behind it, though I had been wondering who the people there are.
Very glad you were able to help him like that =)

And don't worry, I also chat often, and it affects how I type here as well ^^;

:-)... thanks.. it made me happy to do it... It was for my mother, actually, my dad died on December 24th, 2002 (which is my my mother's birthday!) and the wedding anniversary is in February, just after Valentine's day. The black and white photo of the couple is their wedding photo (1945!) Here's a pic I did of my dad shortly before he passed away. I showed it to him 3 days before he died, and he recognized it, and liked it (although he had Alzheimers) ... afterwards, everyone in the family wanted one so I made prints on good paper and framed them and gave them as gifts... (I think my techniques have improved since then, but I'm still fairly pleased with it) here's a [link] .
